The results are non-binding estimates for guidance only and do not replace tax, legal or investment advice. What counts are your payslip, your tax assessment (Steuerbescheid) and the terms of your contracts.

How it is calculated

Interest is credited monthly at the monthly rate equivalent to the annual rate (conformal rate) and itself earns interest from the following month. An annual increase raises the savings amount after every twelve months.

Taxes and costs are not deducted. Capital gains tax (Abgeltungsteuer) is payable on returns above the saver's allowance, and funds have ongoing charges.

Frequently asked questions

What return is realistic?

Instant-access and fixed-term savings accounts (Tagesgeld, Festgeld) pay interest at a set rate. Shares and broadly diversified funds have higher but fluctuating returns over the long term; past performance is no guarantee of future returns.

Why does compound interest matter so much?

Returns are reinvested and earn returns themselves. The longer the term, the larger this share of the final balance becomes.
